RAY AT NIGHT
Saturday July 11th 6-10pm
Featured Artist : Ally Sligh
I started practicing photography in 1995. I am currently attending UCSD, working towards my Bachelors in Media Arts and Digital Cinema with emphasis in Photography. I am interested in the human figure and how we interact with our environments. In interest to create visually stimulating images I try to capture the color and form in a provocative way. In this particular series I am investigating the unique social structure that has emerged from the road bike culture working towards creating a more sustainable city, giving bikes visibility and acknowledgment as a responsible means of transportation. The comradery and general interest in pursuing a greater cause towards a cleaner greener America has produced a tight knit stucture offering community and support for all those who wish to join the cause. The bike is an amazing mechanichal extention of the human body that gives us the ability to travel and commute. The community that has embraced this idea also extends personality and individuality through the structure and appearance of the bike as well as the specific importance of the relationships the bikes allow with the surrounding environments and community. This work consists of a series of portraits of those involved in the community with their bikes, conveying the specific details that make the rider unique as extensions of themselves.

DYKE MARCH AND FESTIVAL

Dyke March and Dyke Festival is a community-driven event that empowers, inspires, promotes, and celebrates women's and trans' communities. INCREASING QUEER VISIBILITY and activism are our main goal and purpose. Over the years, DykeMarch/DykeFest organizations all over the world and United States have grown to be more inclusive of all women-loving-women REGARDLESS OF LABELS. Dyke March and Festival San Diego is an integration of lesbians, bisexuals, trans, queers, feminists, and supporters coming together for the common cause of anti-discrimnation and anti-oppression of ALL PEOPLE.
